At 85/100 on the ExpeditionDifficulty Scale, this is one of India's most demanding high-altitude crossings. Due to the remoteness, sustained altitude, and total daily effort, this crossing demands elite fitness and prior high-altitude experience.
Cold Management
Key point
Keep your water bottles deep inside your sleeping bag at night, otherwise, you will wake up to an unusable block of solid ice.
Almost the entire expedition from Day 3 to Day 10 is on highly technical, shifting ice, crevassed glaciers, and treacherous moraine. No solid trail exists.
The most aggressive day in Indian trekking. You are climbing a 60-degree ice wall to 19,521 ft in pitch black, roped up, in sub-zero temperatures.
The descent into the Arwa valley is heavily crevassed. If the snow bridges are weak from a hot afternoon sun, falling through into a crevasse is a high probability.
Beyond ultra-marathon fitness. You must have prior experience carrying a heavy pack above 5,000 meters, using a Jumar, and performing an ice-axe self-arrest.
Staggering. You spend nearly a week sleeping above 14,000 ft, culminating in an almost 20,000 ft pass. Oxygen levels at the pass drop below 50% of sea level.

Evacuation Route
Helicopter (Weather permitting). Otherwise, manual carry-outs back to Bhojbasa or forward to Ghastoli depending on your position relative to the pass.
