Lightning Risk

July & August

Attempting Kalindi Khal is restricted to two incredibly brief windows. Mid-June to mid-July provides relatively solid snow bridges over the massive crevasses but high avalanche danger. September offers pristine, clear skies but the snow bridges have melted, exposing massive, bottomless blue-ice crevasses that must be navigated or jumped.

Editor's Insight

Most operators prefer early September. The weather is stable. The trade-off is the glacier is bare blue ice, meaning your crampon work must be flawless.
