Essential Planning Guide
Vibe & Scenery
The Markha Valley Trek is widely regarded as the classic trek of Ladakh, combining spectacular mountain landscapes with the rich cultural heritage of the region. Beginning near Leh, the trail passes through Hemis National Park, traditional Ladakhi villages, irrigated barley fields, and centuries-old monasteries before entering the broad alpine meadows of Nimaling.
The expedition culminates with the crossing of Kongmaru La at approximately 17,060 ft, where panoramic views extend across the Zanskar and Karakoram ranges before descending toward Shang Valley.
Staying in village homestays for much of the journey, trekkers experience Ladakhi hospitality alongside one of the Himalayas' most distinctive high-altitude desert landscapes.
