The Experience

Introduction

The Kashmir Great Lakes Trek is widely regarded as one of India's finest multi-day Himalayan treks, renowned for its remarkable concentration of alpine lakes, flower-filled meadows, and high mountain passes. Beginning near Sonamarg and finishing at Naranag, the route crosses several mountain passes while linking a chain of glacial lakes including Vishansar, Kishansar, Gadsar, Satsar, Gangabal, and Nundkol.

Each stage presents a distinct landscapeβ€”from broad grasslands grazed by Gujjar shepherds to rocky alpine basins and crystal-clear lakes reflecting the surrounding peaks. During summer, the valleys are carpeted with wildflowers, while autumn offers crisp mountain views and golden alpine vegetation.

Although technically straightforward, the trek involves sustained altitude, multiple pass crossings, and long trekking days, making good fitness essential.
