Seasonal Verdict

When should you go?

An extension deep into the glacial basin. May-June offers a snow-covered glacier experience, while September-October provides clear access across the dry moraine. The monsoon makes the approach extremely hazardous due to landslides.

Editor's Insight

The single most impactful variable for Sundardhunga photography quality is moraine surface condition — dry vs wet. In August, meltwater channels traverse the moraine throughout the day. In October, the moraine freezes each night and dries each morning, giving a firm, dark, contrasting surface that makes the glacier peaks above appear dramatically more vivid. October moraine photography at Sundardhunga base camp is qualitatively different from August.
