About Shilla Peak Expedition

Shilla Peak (23,041 ft / 7,025m) is the second-highest summit in Himachal Pradesh and one of the most significant mountaineering objectives in the Spiti-Kinnaur border range. Classified by the Indian Mountaineering Foundation (IMF) as a restricted peak requiring expedition permits, Shilla offers technically serious mountaineering on a peak that is nonetheless relatively accessible in approach compared to the more remote Greater Himalayan summits. The approach through the Spiti-Kinnaur border country passes through some of India's most geologically extraordinary terrain — the massive folded and faulted geological formations of the Himalayan metamorphic core complex, visible in the multi-colored cliff faces and towering ridges of the approach valley. The summit day on Shilla involves mixed rock and ice climbing at extreme altitude with technical sections requiring fixed rope deployment. This is a full mountaineering expedition for experienced technical climbers — not a trekking peak.
