Seasonal Verdict

When should you go?

An expedition-grade trek into the Nanda Devi Outer Sanctuary. It involves traversing steep, exposed rock walls. The monsoon is a dominant hazard here due to severe rockfall, and winter completely buries the route.

Editor's Notes

Editor's Insight

August gives you the Nanda Devi Sanctuary at full bloom below, but the snowfield approach to the pass is still demanding and afternoons are cloudier. September gives you crystal clarity, minimal snowfield, and sharp Himalayan views — but the valley bloom is largely past. Choose based on priority: bloom (August) vs clarity (September). The pass itself is better in September; the aerial perspective from it is better in August.
