The Experience

Introduction

Chipla Kedar is one of Kumaon's oldest and least-visited Shiva pilgrimage destinations. Located in the Dharchula region of Pithoragarh district, the temple lies deep within forests and alpine meadows far from Uttarakhand's better-known pilgrimage circuits.

The trail passes through traditional Kumaoni and Bhotiya settlements before climbing into oak, rhododendron, and high-altitude grasslands. From the temple ridge, trekkers enjoy sweeping views across the Nepal Himalaya, including Api and Nampa, while experiencing a quieter side of Himalayan pilgrimage traditions.

Owing to its remote location close to the international border, permits and local regulations may apply. The trek is well suited for hikers seeking a blend of culture, history, and relatively uncrowded mountain landscapes.
