Seasonal Verdict

When should you go?

A massive, expedition-style circuit connecting three major Kumaon valleys. It strictly operates in the narrow pre and post-monsoon windows. The monsoon causes lethal landslides and washouts across the circuit, while winter buries the entire region.

Editor's Notes

Editor's Insight

In October, the Pindari-Kafni col crossing in the morning has firm frost on the grass slopes — not ice, but traction-enhancing. This is the optimal condition: the surface is stable and non-slippery (compared to wet grass in monsoon) and the upper col gives the clearest possible simultaneous views of the Pindari glacier below and the Kafni valley opening ahead. The col moment — two glacier systems visible simultaneously from a 13,200 ft ridge — is the definitive frame of the circuit.
