How difficult are the river crossings on Hampta Pass?
Crossings can be thigh-deep in June/July. Always cross in the morning before peak snowmelt. Use poles, unbuckle your hip strap, and follow your guide’s instructions carefully.
Is Hampta Pass suitable for first-timers?
It is manageable for beginners with good fitness. However, a prior trek to 3,000m (like Triund or Kedarkantha) is recommended before attempting this 4,270m crossover.
Is Chandratal Lake always included?
Not by default. Chandratal is usually an extension costing ₹1,000–₹1,500 extra. It involves a scenic drive from Chhatru and an overnight camp near the lake at 4,250m.
