Gulabi Kantha (approx. 12,500 ft) is Uttarakhand's most spectacular 'secret' meadow, deeply overshadowed by its more famous neighbors like Dayara Bugyal or Kedarkantha. Located above Hanuman Chatti on the historical Yamunotri route, this majestic alpine ridge derives its name ('Pink Neck/Meadow') from the millions of pink anemone and potentially rhododendron blooms that carpet the slopes in late spring and early monsoon. The trek ascents rapidly through dense, ancient oak and silvery birch forests before breaking out onto a massive, undulating grassy ridge. From this vantage point, trekkers are rewarded with an unobstructed, terrifyingly close 360-degree panorama of the Greater Himalayas, dominatingly featuring the massive Bandarpoonch and Black Peak mastiffs. It represents the perfect, non-technical introduction to high-altitude Himalayan isolation without the heavy crowds of commercialized routes.
