Seasonal Overview

The trek directly mirrors the Kedarnath Yatra timings. It opens in May and closes around Diwali (November). Monsoon months (July-August) are incredibly dangerous due to landslides on the Gaurikund route and heavy fog at the lake.

September Magic

Key point

Late September is flawless. The monsoon has washed the dust out of the air, the Yatra crowds thin slightly, and Chaukhamba reflects perfectly in the lake.

Important Tips

If visiting in May, ensure you have microspikes. The 8km route from the Temple to the Lake will be heavily covered in residual winter ice, making the steep ascent lethal without grip.

Timing makes or breaks a trek. Send this to your group before you decide.
