About Kareri Lake Trek

The Kareri Lake Trek is a popular alpine lake trek in the Dhauladhar Range of Himachal Pradesh. Leading to the glacial Kareri Lake at approximately 9,800 ft, the route combines forests, mountain streams, shepherd settlements, and high-altitude scenery, making it an excellent weekend trek near Dharamshala.

Is Kareri Lake a natural lake?
Yes, it is a freshwater high-altitude lake fed by the snow-melt from the Dhauladhar range.
Where do we start the trek?
The trek starts from Ghera village, about 20km from Dharamshala/McLeodganj.
How is the drinking water on the trail?
The trail follows the Nyund stream, which provides clean, fresh drinking water throughout the trek.
Can we see Minkiani Pass?
Yes, the pass is visible from the lake and can be attempted by experienced trekkers as a day-hike.
Is it safe for solo female travelers?
Yes, it is a very popular and safe trail, but camping with a group at the lake is recommended for safety.
