The Churdhar Peak Trek leads to the highest summit in Himachal Pradesh's Sirmaur district and one of the most important pilgrimage peaks of the outer Himalayas. Rising to 11,965 ft, the trail climbs through dense deodar forests and alpine meadows before reaching the Shirgul Maharaj temple and panoramic summit overlooking the Greater Himalayas.
Trek Highlights
Teesri Windy Pass
The exact moment you leave the treeline and the vast alpine meadows open up to the sky.
Lord Shiva Statue
A massive, commanding statue of Lord Shiva sitting atop a rocky granite spire at 11,965 ft.
It is graded as Moderate. While there are no extreme technical sections in the summer, the sheer distance (18 km one way) and an altitude gain of over 5,000 feet make it a heavy endurance test.
Can I do this trek in winter?
The peak receives massive snowfall (often 10+ feet) between December and March. The temple closes, and the trail from Teesri onwards becomes highly dangerous. It is not recommended without specialized winter mountaineering gear.
Is there accommodation at the summit?
There is a Dharamshala near the Shirgul Maharaj temple (just below the summit), but it gets extremely crowded with pilgrims in summer and offers only basic floor sleeping. We highly recommend camping at Jamnala or Teesri instead.
Are there leeches on the trail?
During the monsoon (July-August), the lower forest sections from Nohradhar are notoriously infested with leeches and mud.
Is mobile network available?
Airtel and Jio work reasonably well at Nohradhar. You will lose network in the forest, but surprisingly, you often catch a 4G signal at the actual summit.
Where is the last ATM?
Solan or Rajgarh. Do not rely on finding a working ATM in Nohradhar. Carry sufficient cash for the entire trip.
Can beginners do this trek?
Fit beginners can do it if they break the ascent over two days (camping at Jamnala). Doing it in a single day is exhausting and highly discouraged for first-timers.
Do I need a guide?
The trail is well-trodden and generally easy to follow up to Teesri. However, a guide is highly recommended to arrange camping logistics, avoid the pilgrim crowds, and ensure safety on the final rocky push.
