Essential Planning Guide
Vibe & Scenery
Hidden in the beautiful Urgam Valley, the Bansi Narayan Temple Trek combines Himalayan trekking with one of Garhwal's lesser-known pilgrimage destinations. The trail begins from Devgram and gradually climbs through dense oak and rhododendron forests before reaching open alpine meadows surrounding the ancient stone temple.
Dedicated to Lord Vishnu, Bansi Narayan Temple is famous for opening to devotees only once each year during Raksha Bandhan. For the remainder of the year, the temple remains remarkably peaceful, surrounded by forests and mountain pastures.
Suitable for beginners with good fitness, the trek offers an excellent combination of Garhwali culture, mythology, and quiet Himalayan scenery.

The trek starts from Devgram village in the Urgam Valley, which is accessed via Joshimath and Helang.
No. Once you leave Devgram, there are no human settlements or tea houses. You must carry a packed lunch.

You will have network in Devgram (Jio/BSNL), but it vanishes as you enter the dense forest.
While physically safe, the forest is dense and unmarked. A local guide from Devgram is highly recommended so you don't get lost.
In winter (Dec-March), the trail is buried in snow. In the summer/autumn trekking months, it is entirely green and dry.
