Essential Planning Guide
Vibe & Scenery
Bhyundar Khal is one of the classic glacier traverses of the Garhwal Himalayas, linking the lush Bhyundar Valley with the remote Niti Valley across the high watershed north of the Valley of Flowers National Park. Above the alpine meadows of Tipra Kharak, the route enters a landscape dominated by glaciers, moraine fields, and steep mountain slopes before reaching the 16,732 ft pass.
Unlike conventional trekking routes, the expedition demands continuous glacier travel where crevasses, unstable moraine, seasonal snow bridges, and rapidly changing conditions are part of the normal terrain. Rope management, crampon use, and sound judgement on glaciated ground are essential throughout the crossing.
Bhyundar Khal remains one of Garhwal's lesser-attempted alpine traverses and is intended for experienced mountaineers with prior technical glacier experience.
