Editor's Notes
Patalsu is the highest point you can stand on within a day's trek of Manali. The 360-degree view covers more Manali geography than any other accessible peak.
In winter, skiers descend the same slopes you trek up in summer. It's India's first true dual-use adventure mountain.

The trek starts from Solang Valley near Manali. You cross the Beas river and climb through oak forests.
You get an uninterrupted view of the Beas Valley peaks, Hanuman Tibba, and the Seven Sisters massifs.
For very fit trekkers, it is possible as a long day-hike (8-10 hours), but a 2-day trek allows for better enjoyment of the views.
Yes, it is a great introductory peak trek for those looking to experience high-altitude summiting without technical difficulty.
The Patalsu Peak trek is moderately difficult. While it requires no technical skills, the summit day involves a steep and demanding ascent. Fit beginners with a strong mindset can complete it successfully.
The best time to climb Patalsu Peak is from May to June and September to October. For those seeking a thrilling snow climb, late April and May offer excellent snow conditions near the summit.
It is highly recommended to do it in 2 or 3 days, camping at Shagadugh. While extremely fit climbers sometimes attempt it in a single day from Solang Valley, it is incredibly exhausting and increases the risk of AMS.
Good cardiovascular stamina and leg strength are necessary. You should be able to walk uphill for 5-6 hours comfortably. Preparing with stair climbing and jogging a few weeks prior is advised.
In early summer (May to early June), you will encounter significant snow patches near the summit. By late July and August, the snow mostly melts, revealing a rocky, boulder-strewn trail.
