Yes, there are several small glacial streams to cross in the gorges before reaching the high passes.
Is this easier than Markha Valley?
It is shorter (5 days vs 7 days) but involves crossing higher passes (16,200 ft) more frequently. It is rated as Moderate.
Are there homestays?
Unlike Markha Valley, this is entirely a camping trek. There are no villages between Chogdo and Stok.
Will my phone work?
No. You will lose network shortly after leaving Leh. Expect a total blackout.
Is there snow on Matho La?
In July and August, the pass is generally free of deep snow, consisting of loose rocks and scree.
Can beginners do this?
Only highly fit beginners who have previously trekked above 12,000 ft. The consecutive 15,000+ ft passes are demanding.
