Common Questions

How hard is the Baraadsar Lake Trek?
It is rated as Hard/Demanding. The ridge walks are heavily exposed, and the final push to the lake at 14,400 ft involves navigating steep, loose boulders and scree.
Is it crowded?
No. It is a 'virgin' trail compared to Rupin Pass. You will likely not see another group for the entire week.
Can beginners do this?
Absolutely not. The exposure on the Dhaldhar ridge and the steep descent require prior high-altitude trekking experience and solid footwork.
Is there snow at the lake?
In May and June, the lake is often partially frozen and surrounded by deep snow fields. By September, it is mostly rocky.
Will my phone work?
Network is available at Sankri/Khanyasni. Once you begin ascending, expect a total blackout.
Are there water sources on the ridge?
Water is scarce on the high ridges (Badang to Devbasa). You must carry 2-3 liters from camp each day.
Is a guide required?
Yes. The trail on the ridge is unmarked and fog/whiteouts can make navigation extremely dangerous.
What mountains are visible?
You get incredible views of Swargarohini, Bandarpoonch, and Black Peak (Kalanag).
