Essential Planning Guide
The Khurchhed to Chasak Bhatori trek is a deep-wilderness route connecting remote villages within the Pangi valley through a high glacial pass at 15,100 ft — an inter-valley connection used by the Pangi valley's Pangwali community for generations to maintain contact between isolated hamlets on either side of the pass. Khurchhed is a tiny Pangwali village at the upper end of a lateral valley feeding into the Chenab (Chandrabhaga) river, and the trek crosses over to Chasak Bhatori, another extreme-altitude village that has only recently been connected to the outside world by a fragile footpath. This trek is one of the most 'local' and authentic Pangi valley experiences possible — the route has no trekking infrastructure, is rarely done by outsiders, and passes through living communities that have maintained their Tibetan-influenced culture in complete geographical isolation. It sits at the extreme end of the difficulty-remoteness spectrum and is recommended only for experienced high-altitude trekkers with prior Pangi valley familiarity.
