Walk down sideways or zig-zag on the wider stairs. Going straight down 1,000 steps will destroy your calves for the next three days.
The trail is essentially a continuously steep stone stairway cutting straight up the mountain.
The ridge at the top is flat and covered in grass, but completely exposed to high winds.
Descending the stone steps is notoriously hard on the knees and thighs.
Basic stair-master exercises are highly recommended to prepare the quads.
