Essential Planning Guide
The Mandani Valley is one of the most spectacular and least-visited glacial sub-valleys in the entire Indian Himalaya — a high wilderness corridor within the Kedarnath Wildlife Sanctuary that receives fewer than 100 trekkers per year. Accessible from the Kedarnath side of the Garhwal range, the valley penetrates deep into a glacially carved amphitheatre beneath Kedarnath Peak (22,769 ft), Bharatekuntha, and Kirti Stambh. The approach follows the Mandakini River headwaters through meadows that have never been commercially trekked, past unnamed glaciers and streams that flow into rivers pilgrims have worshipped for 5,000 years. Views from the upper valley are extraordinary — and virtually no photograph of them exists in the public domain. The Mandani Valley Trek is MountRoutes' highest-authority offbeat wilderness route in Garhwal.
